When I was younger, I used to spray my hair with this product called Sun In which turned my locks an orangey blonde. It was awful. Now that I am older and wiser, at least when it comes to beauty products, I like to go the au natural way. Besides laying in the sun, there are a couple of different natural products that can lighten your hair and the best part, you probably have them in your home right now. My top three natural products are highlighted below – what’s your favorite way to lighten your hair?
The juice of a lemon is one of the most common ways to get sun kissed highlights. Fun fact: when heated, the citric acid from the lemon juice opens hair cuticles and lifts out pigment. Before you spend a day in the sun, squeeze a lemon into a spray bottle, and spritz onto locks.
Honey is a gentle enough you can use this method over and over again without any damage to your hair. However, since it’s so sticky, I recommend mixing honey with water before applying to your strands. To get a double dose of lightening action, you can replace water with chamomile tea which brings me to my next natural product.
Chamomile tea works wonders! It can lighten your hair up to two shades. Brew a batch of tea and rinse your hair with it after showering. Or mix it in your shampoo for a more gradual effect.
